Vernon R. Stanfill

       1953 - 2009

 

Vernon R. Stanfill 56 of Fort Gay, WV passed away Saturday October 10, 2009 from a sudden illness.

Vern was born July 5, 1953 at Middletown, Ohio, the son of Margaret Harding Stanfill and the late Joe Stanfill. He worked at radio station WVKY in Louisa, KY, was a dispatcher for the Louisa Police Department, was very instrumental in starting WFGH radio at Tolsia High School serving as the radio engineer and broadcasting teacher at the time of his death. He was a active member of the Fort Gay Fire Department for 32 years known by many as Unit 499. Vern loved Ham Radio his call letters being NZ8K, and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Donald K. and Mary Stanfill of Twas, Michigan; a niece Amanda Stanfill also of Twas, Michigan; a loving companion Janie Cardwell of Fort Gay, WV; his adoptive family Jennifer and husband Randy Thompson and children Nicole and Randa, Dennis and wife Sandy and children Shawn and Miranda Crum; two special little buddies Blake and Brady Cook; a very special friend and co-worker Hazel Damron. Vern will be sadly missed by his co-workers, friends, students, and all who knew him.

A Memorial Service and Eulogies will be held at the Tolsia High School Gymnasium on Thursday October 15th at 2:30 pm.. Honors will be presented by members of the Fort Gay Fire Department. Friends may call from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home.

by many.  Great friend to all in amateur radio and in the
community.  He was the Chief Engineer for WFGH FM radio
station in Fort Gay, WV.   Also a teacher at Tolisa High School.
I will send out info as I get it, may the good LORD take good
care of Vernon Stanfill one of my best friends for years.
