On Saturday, July 30, 2016, the Big Sandy Amateur Radio club held its annual Hamfest at the Lawrence County Community Center. This was the first time at this particular location for the Hamfest and we did not know how successful it would be. Although a "great time was had by all," we did not get  the crowd we had hoped. There were 68 who attended the fest and we sold 25 tables. Unfortunately, we went in the hole about $200 by the time you consider the cost of the prizes and other things we had to pay for. One reason for this was, at the first of the year, we didn't know whether or not we were going to have a Hamfest. With the passing of our former secretary Joe Wayne Compton, KJ4LVY, back in December of 2015, it seemed our future was in jeopardy. However, at our first meeting in March of 2016, the club members decided they wanted to have a Hamfest. As a consequense,  with the help of all and, of course, God, our Heavenly Father, it happened. As of now, we hope to have a Hamfest in 2017.  We will start planning for this event at the start of the New Year. As your president, I want to thank you for your attendance and support of all of our activities for the Hamfest. Tom Lykins President Big Sandy Amateur Radio Club K4LID
